Austin has 106 gun dealers, out of more than 5,800 licensed dealers in the state. At a gun show in Crockett Convention Center in 2008, Celerino Castillo III paid a straw purchaser to buy pistols for “backers” who had a hard time getting across the border. He bought the pistols from a convicted a felon who was working at the show for RB Treasures, an online dealer that is still selling military–‐style weapons.
Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell is a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which supports establishing the gun dealer Code of Conduct to prevent straw purchases of guns.
