Santa  Fe has 23 licensed gun dealers, out of 708 in the state. At Pawn City Inc. on Cerrillos, Sam Lopez bought an assault rifle in March 2007, which was recovered at a crime in Ascension, Chihuahua. The same month, Samuel Aiello also purchased an assault weapon at Guns & Things, which showed up at a crime in Navolato, Sinaloa in 2009. Santa Fe Mayor David Coss is a member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which supports establishing the gun dealer Code of Conduct to prevent straw purchases of guns.
