Lourdes Campos Romo

Mother of Guillermo Gustavo Navarro Campos, murdered on June 16th, 2010.

“He was able to organize cab drivers that took people back and forth from Toluca to the bus station. He pushed for the organization of the local market on the weekends. On the day of his assassination, his neighbors blocked the federal freeway as a way to protest for this crime and it was no until then that the authorities accepted the security plans that Guillermo Gustavo Navarro had proposed.“

“During his last five years as the neighborhood’s president, violence prevailed, but Guillermo always kept neighbors united in their fights against insecurity. He taught them that unity means power and change. Today, his voice is still heard and keeps them united. Guillermo, as a citizen, organized them to keep Villas El Nevado as a safe community and always worked hard to live in peace. For him, each human being was sacred.”

“He made an effort to create a family welfare program that increment the culture and life standards of those who live in the zone. This is why is so unfair to vanished the life of a just and kind man, life that was taken from him callously when he was sitting in front of his computers, and through his window was cowardly shot five times on June 16th, 2012 at 10
pm, laying his body just around his working space and next to a blood puddle”.
